Shockwave Therapy

Acoustic energy that boosts blood flow and sparks nerve repair.
Shockwave therapy uses gentle, focused acoustic pressure waves to stimulate circulation and trigger your body’s natural healing response. In neuropathy care, it is especially valuable for one simple reason: damaged nerves cannot heal without a healthy blood supply, and shockwave therapy is one of the most effective ways we have to improve blood flow to the feet and hands.

It is non-invasive, drug-free and requires no downtime, making it an excellent partner to the other therapies in your program.

The blood-flow connection

One of the root problems in peripheral neuropathy is poor circulation. The tiny blood vessels that feed your peripheral nerves can become damaged or constricted, starving those nerves of the oxygen and nutrients they need to function and repair. When the supply lines fail, the nerves struggle, and symptoms like numbness, burning and tingling take hold.

Shockwave therapy directly targets this problem. The acoustic waves stimulate the formation of new blood vessels, a process called angiogenesis, and improve circulation in the treated area. Better blood flow means more oxygen and nourishment reaching the nerves, creating the conditions they need to recover.

Stimulating natural repair

Beyond circulation, shockwave therapy prompts the body to release growth factors and ramp up cellular activity in the treated tissue. For nerves and the tissues around them that have been stuck in a damaged, low-function state, this jolt of healing activity can be exactly what is needed to move toward recovery. It also helps reduce inflammation, which can ease pain and create a healthier environment for the nerves.

What to expect during treatment

A session is quick and comfortable. We apply a handheld device to the affected areas of your feet, legs or hands, and it delivers rhythmic acoustic pulses to the tissue below. You will feel a tapping or pulsing sensation that we adjust to your comfort level. Sessions typically last just a few minutes per area, and you can resume normal activity right away with no recovery time required.

As with all of our neuropathy therapies, consistency matters. Shockwave therapy is delivered as a series of treatments so the circulation and healing benefits can build over time. We monitor your response and adjust the plan to keep you progressing.

Better together

In our program, shockwave therapy is rarely used alone. By improving blood flow, it actually makes the other therapies work better, the nerve stimulation from Neuromed and electric stimulation, the cellular energy from laser and red light, and the circulation boost from compression and vibration all benefit from healthier blood supply. This layered, coordinated approach is why our patients often see results that single treatments cannot match.

Could it help you?

If your neuropathy is driven in part by poor circulation, and most cases are, shockwave therapy may be a key part of your recovery. It is appropriate for many forms of peripheral neuropathy, including diabetic and idiopathic types. A quick, painless nerve and circulation scan will tell us where you stand and whether this therapy belongs in your personalized plan.

What progress can look like

As circulation improves and the healing response takes hold, many patients notice their feet feel warmer, less heavy and less prone to the deep aching that poor blood flow causes. Some find that the numbness softens at the edges and that walking becomes more comfortable. Because shockwave therapy is rebuilding the very supply lines your nerves depend on, its benefits often continue to develop across your course of care and beyond. We set honest expectations based on your circulation results, track your response with follow-up testing, and adjust the intensity and frequency of treatment so you continue moving in the right direction without ever pushing past your comfort.
